Local Operators in Massive Quantum Field Theories

چکیده

A fundamental problem in quantum theory is to establish a connection between its local description (quantum field theory) and measurable quantities (particle masses, scattering amplitudes). In elementary particle physics one relies mostly on approximation techniques due to the non-integrable structure of the interactions. In order to gain a deeper understanding of quantum theory in general these issues are examined for integrable systems, where one hopes to gain exact relations between the two descriptions. Though many integrable theories in four dimensions are known (for a review see e.g. [1]) much more knowledge has been obtained so far for two dimensional theories, and it is thus this class of models where my investigations focus. In the particle picture the interaction is encoded into the scattering matrix. The asymptotic states are described by a linear superposition of free one-particle states |Zǫ(β)〉, which are characterised by the particle species ǫ and their momentum, parametrised as p = m cosh β, p = m sinh β (m denotes the mass and β the rapidity). They are related through the S-matrix as

The Space of Local Operators in Perturbed Conformal Field Theories

The space of local operators in massive deformations of conformal field theories is analysed. For several model systems it is shown that one can define chiral sectors in the theory, such that the chiral field content is in a one-to-one correspondence with that of the underlying conformal field theory. The full space of operators consists of the descendent spaces of all scalar fields. If the the...

Coupling a QFT to a TQFT and Duality

We consider coupling an ordinary quantum field theory with an infinite number of degrees of freedom to a topological field theory. On R the new theory differs from the original one by the spectrum of operators. Sometimes the local operators are the same but there are different line operators, surface operators, etc. The effects of the added topological degrees of freedom are more dramatic when ...

Notes on quantum entanglement of local operators

This is an expanded version of the short report arXiv:1401.0539, where we studied the time evolution of (Renyi) entanglement entropies for the excited state defined by acting a given local operator on the ground state. In the present paper, we introduce (Renyi) entanglement entropies of given local operators which are defined by late time values of excesses of (Renyi) entanglement entropies. Th...

Integrable Structure of Conformal Field Theory, Quantum KdV Theory and Thermodynamic Bethe Ansatz

We construct the quantum versions of the monodromy matrices of KdV theory. The traces of these quantum monodromy matrices, which will be called as “T-operators”, act in highest weight Virasoro modules. The T-operators depend on the spectral parameter λ and their expansion around λ = ∞ generates an infinite set of commuting Hamiltonians of the quantum KdV system. The T-operators can be viewed as...

Quantum Symmetries in 2 D Massive Field Theories

We review various aspects of (infinite) quantum group symmetries in 2D massive quantum field theories. We discuss how these symmetries can be used to exactly solve the integrable models. A possible way for generalizing to three dimensions is shortly described.. Series of lectures given at the 91 Cargese school, New symmetry principles in quantum field theory. * Laboratoire de la Direction des s...
